Outcomes

Direction

The customer and business results that give an operation a reason to exist.

An outcome is the result the company is trying to create for a customer, teammate, or business. Outcomes keep the system focused on value instead of activity, model completeness, or agent cleverness.

Start with the result

Describe the change in the world: a customer receives a correct answer, a risk is resolved, or a team closes the month with confidence. Then identify the operations, loops, and metrics that support it.

Connect work to value

Every recurring operation should be able to answer: who benefits, what changes, how will we observe it, and what tradeoffs matter? This gives agents useful direction and gives people a basis for review.

Review the whole system

Improvement is not only a better prompt or faster tool. Review the object model, knowledge, permissions, interface, human handoffs, and metrics together.
